Litigation Legal Assistant
Location: Downtown San Diego, CA
Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 annually (DOE)
About the Opportunity
A respected law firm in Downtown San Diego is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to provide high-level administrative and litigation support to attorneys in a fast-paced business litigation practice. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced with state and federal court procedures, including electronic filing and litigation calendaring.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation Support
- Prepare, revise, format, and proofread legal documents, including briefs, complaints, motions, contracts, correspondence, and other litigation-related materials.
- Draft and update tables of contents and tables of authorities for court filings.
- Perform electronic filing (eFiling) in California state courts and federal courts.
- Calendar court deadlines, filing dates, hearings, depositions, and other litigation events.
- Coordinate with docketing personnel to ensure all deadlines are properly tracked and communicated.
- Maintain working knowledge of litigation procedures and legal terminology.
- Assist with e-discovery processes and document management.
Administrative Support
- Provide confidential administrative support to attorneys and legal staff.
- Maintain attorney calendars, schedule meetings, depositions, court appearances, and client conferences.
- Reserve conference rooms, coordinate court reporters, and arrange meeting logistics.
- Enter attorney time into the firm's billing system (3E).
- Process attorney expense reimbursements.
- Arrange travel and related itineraries as needed.
- Maintain attorney and client contact information.
File & Records Management
- Open, maintain, and close client matters.
- Coordinate conflict checks and records management activities.
- Manage electronic and physical client files using firm systems.
- Sort, prioritize, and distribute incoming mail and prepare outgoing correspondence and shipments.
General Office Support
- Scan, photocopy, fax, and prepare documents as needed.
- Work collaboratively with attorneys, legal assistants, billing teams, records personnel, and other administrative staff.
- Provide overflow support to other practice groups when necessary.
- Adhere to firm policies and recordkeeping procedures.
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of business litigation experience supporting attorneys in a law firm environment.
- Extensive experience with state and federal court eFiling procedures.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent proofreading, grammar, and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of legal terminology, litigation procedures, and court rules.
- Experience managing complex litigation calendars and monitoring court deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively under time-sensitive conditions.
- Typing speed of at least 60 WPM.
Preferred
- Experience with 3E, iManage, Kofax Power PDF, Emburse, Milana, and Forms Workflow.
- Familiarity with e-discovery processes and litigation support technology.
- Proficiency conducting internet and legal research.
- Experience supporting multiple attorneys within a business litigation practice.
